RC Circuits
This applet shows the transient behavior that
occurs when the capacitor is being charged or discharged.
1. The circuit contains a 100 kohm resistor and a 100 uF capacitor in series
2. The circuit also contains a 10 Volt potential difference source
Click within the cyan rectangular area and drag the mouse up or down to change its value.
3. Press Start to start the animation,
The program will show the potential drop across the capacitor (Vc) and across the resistor.
The program also draws a Vc vs. t curve (in Red), and a IR vs. t curve (in Blue).
4. There is a switch to control the flow path of the circuit.
Click near the (Red) switch to change between horizontal position: charging
and vertical position: discharging.
You can change the switch position at any time.
5. If the mouse is inside the Vc vs. t plot area, the x-y values of the mouse pointer will be displayed.
6. The animation can be suspended using the mouse button.
Pressing and holding the left mouse button suspends the animation; releasing the button resumes the animation.
Clicking the right mouse button suspends the animation; clicking the right mouse button a second time resumes the animation.
