Adding a Link

You can make any text or image on your page into a link (sometimes called a hyper link or hot link) to another web page, image, or other media. For this page, I'm going to create a link to the official Bill Nye page, located at http://nyelabs.kcts.org/

Select the text or image you want to make into a link. In this example, I've selected the words "Bill Nye the Science Guy" at the beginning of the third paragraph. Just as a personal preference, I've also italicized this link text.

Click on the Link icon,  , in the right middle of the composer toolbar. This will bring up a dialog window titled "Character Properties", and will have the Link tab selected.

The upper part of the dialog window will show the text you have selected to make into a link, in this case Bill Nye the Science Guy.

If you are linking to a distant site, type in the correct address (with attention to punctuation and capitalization) into the text box titled Link to a page location or local file:. If you are linking to another page in your own web page directory, you can select the Choose File... button and get a list of available files.

In this example, I'm linking to a distant web page, so I've typed in the address "http://nyelabs.kcts.org/".

To close the dialog window, click on the OK button. The dialog window will close and selected text will be underlined and in your chosen link color.

The links are not active in the Composer window. You have to browse the image (Preview icon) to check to be sure the links work. Frequently, when you make a change in your work in the Composer, save it; then reload the page in the Browser to check your work.
