parents moved
to Reading 1801 03/25-07/24/1808 to Mahantango Twp, Berks Co (Schuylkill Co.
in 1811).
Jacob and wife to Cherry Twp, Lycoming Co 04/01/1827. 09/27/1834 Jacob electred
school
director. 10/19/1834 Jacob and Catharina and her sister Elizabeth Klinger, widow,
conveyed to
Frederick Schwalm rights, etc to a tract of land sold by Johannes Schwalm 04/21/1823
to
Frederick. 11/19/1834 the same 3 personally appeared before George Klinger, JP
to acknowledge the deed
which was later recorded 12/28/1835. On 06/20/1835 Jacob acting for himself and
attorney for
Catharina at Pottsville, conveyed land to Frederick for $400. 80 Acres, 32 perches
which Catharina inherited from
her father. 10/12/1847, the first election held in new Sullivan Co, Jacob was
elected as a Democratic
candidate for 1 of the 3 County Commissioners. Rented buildings on Cherry Hill
for offices,
they also used a church there for holding court. Was Commissioner 1848, 1849,1850.
02/04/1848 Jacob was one of 3 sureties on the $600 bond of Alfred Bennett, Prothonotary.
02/17/1848 one of 3 sureties on another bond of $1000. 07/08/1852 he purchased
for $423.68 from Mary Cadwalader,
exec. for
Thomas Cadwalader, 141 acres, 38 perches along the Turnpike. 1853 was nominee
of
Democratic Party for Sheriff, but was defeated by Amos C Wilbut, a Whig. 09/29/1855
he executed
a release to Henry Hoffa, his brother. When Jacob and Catharina first cam to
Cherry Twp they attended
the Friedens (Peace) Church S. of Dushore where Roman Catholics, Reformed and
Lutherans
held services. Their daughter Caroline was the first to be baptized there in
June 1827. HOly
Communion was given in April, 1830 to 39 parishioners. The first regular Lutheran
pastor
in the area was the Rev Ludwig Erle from Hall, Germany. Jacob later attended
old Zion Lutheran
Church which was dedicated 09/01/1853. Buried in Lutheran cemetery, near Dushore.
