Distance Learning Endorsement Standards

Standard I - The program shall include opportunities designed to develop knowledge, skills, and techniques…that promote[s] the academic achievement of all students and the acceptance of differences

Standard II - The program shall require study of general principles of life-long human growth and the relationships of teaching and learning theories…to the development of…students.

Standard III - The program shall require study and application of research findings on teaching and learning.

Standard IV - The program shall require study of communication processes and skills for use between teacher and pupil and between teacher and others.

Standard V - The program shall require application of methods and techniques in early and graduated field experiences culminating in a student teaching or internship experience in the particular field of specialization.

Standard VI- The program shall require the study and application of skills and strategies for teaching reading and writing as interactive integrated processes in the prospective teacher's area of specialization.

Standard VII - The program shall require the study of the teacher's role, curriculum trends, and classroom management techniques for early childhood, elementary and middle, or middle and high school.

Standard VIII - The program shall require the study of the leaders, the ideas, and movements underlying the development, organization, and restructuring of education in the United States.

Standard IX - The program shall require the study of the teacher's role in developing educational plans for individual students, including parent or guardian involvement.

Standard X - The program shall require the study of federal and state laws and State Board of Education policies which specify content, values, ethics, and other expectations relating to the responsibilities of professional educators.

Standard XI - The program shall require the study of a wide variety of techniques for evaluating student progress.

Standard XII - The program shall require the study of knowledge and skills designed to meet the needs of all students with special needs, including disabilities, in the regular classroom.

Standard XIII - The program shall require a basic understanding of strategies for integrating English language development for students from non-English backgrounds in all areas of the curriculum.

Standard XIV - The program shall require a basic understanding of and ability to use a variety of technologies as tools of instruction, production, creation, and exploration.

Standard XV - The program shall require prospective teachers to be knowledgeable about the state core curriculum in their respective areas of specialization.

Standard XVI - The program shall require the study of methodologies used to integrate content from various subject areas.
