Day 1-2 Monday May 14 &15, 2001
Team 1 daily assignment
Flight form Salt Lake City, Utah
United flight 2879 to Los Angeles. Departs 6:40 pm. Be at the airport no
later than 5pm. Flight arrives Los Angeles at 7:35 pm. Transfer to International
Terminal; depart to Sydney via Air New Zealand flight 15 at 10:15pm.


"Lose" a calendar day
as you cross the International Date Line, bound for the South Pacific.

Day 3 Wednesday May 16, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 1, place and time to be arranged by the team leader Joyce Sibbett.
Assignment to be completed by 10pm.
Team 2 daily assignment.

Arrival in Sydney
Touch down in Sydney! After clearing customs you are greeted by your EF Tour Director. A private luxury motorcoach takes you to the Hyde Park Plaza Hotel (38 College Street, Sydney, 9331 6933) for check-in. Afterwards, unpack, relax, and meet real "Sydneysiders" (as natives call themselves.) Note that the hotel
check-in is not until 2pm. This means our luggage will remain in the bus for several hours while we wander downtown Sydney. Two students who departed early for Australia will join us at the hotel at 2pm.

In the early afternoon we will be meeting with local minority leaders to begin our quest for knowledge of
diversity issues in Australia.

Free Time in Sydney
After a chance to settle in and refresh at the hotel, the evening is free to explore Sydney.

Day 4 Thursday May 17,2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 2, place and time to be arranged by the team leader Helen Hodgson.
Assignment completed by 10pm.
Team 3 daily assignment.

Guided Sightseeing of Sydney
The motorcoach will collect us from the hotel. Learn about the city's early convict days during Sydney
sightseeing. Board a catamaran for a scenic cruise through Sydney Harbor, one of the world's most beautiful. Visit the special exhibition entitled "The Story of Sydney," highlighting 200 years of the city's history.
Tour the famous Sydney Opera House and learn how its unique design originated from a rejected sketch in a worldwide competition. Enjoy, too, a guided walking tour through the historic "Rocks" area, where
Australia's first fleet of European settlers landed in 1788. You'll also visit Darling Harbor, where a complex of shops, gardens and museums was opened for the 1988 bicentennial.

Day 5 Friday May 18, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 3, place and time to be arranged by the team leader Bonnie Benson.
Assignment completed by 10pm.
Team 4 daily assignment.

Optional Day Excursion to the Blue Mountains and Katoomba
Join an optional excursion to the Blue Mountains, the spectacular range that once seemed an impenetrable barrier to westward expansion. Its name derives from the blue color of the surrounding air,
created by light striking countless droplets of eucalyptus oil suspended in the atmosphere.
View the astonishing Three Sisters rock formation, Katoomba Falls, and ride the scenic skyway from
one cliff top to another - with Jamison Valley 900 feet below you! Then test the acoustics at Echo Point
before visiting the Australian Wildlife Park, home to a wide variety of exotic indigenous Australian
animals - including wombats, wallabies, koalas, emus, and kangaroos.
The fee for this excursion is $74 AUD with the trip being organized through the EF Tours guide.

Free day in Sydney
Alternatively, spend more free time exploring Sydney, home of the 2000 Summer Olympic Games!
Possibly climb the Harbour Bridge, cost is about $58 AUD through the tour guide. Team leaders will
advise the group of their individual plans and invite students.


Day 6 Saturday May 19, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 4, place and time to be arranged by the team leaders, Jeanette Jones and
Carolyn Jenkins. Assignment completed by 10pm.

Free time in Sydney
A free day allows for personal explorations of your own. You might decide to ride up Sydney Tower;
at 1063 feet, it is the highest building south of the equator! Instead, you might wish to visit the city's aquarium,
the fascinating Powerhouse Museum (which contains one of the world's best collection of Aboriginal art)
or the nearby Australian Museum. Team leaders will advise the group of their individual plans and
invite students.

Day 7 Sunday May 20, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 1, place and time to be arranged by the team leader.
Assignment completed by 10pm.

Transfer to Coffs Harbor
We will be collected from the hotel by the motor coach and tour guide. Cross Sydney's spectacular
harbour bridge as we journey northward to the coastal resort of Coffs Harbour. We will spend the
night at Rydges Nautilus Resort in Coffs Harbour, phone (2) 6653 6699.

Free Time in Coffs Harbor
Enjoy a relaxing evening at this beautiful resort town!

Day 8 Monday May 21, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 2, place and time to be arranged by the team leader.
Assignment completed by 10pm.
Team 3 daily assignment.

Transfer to the Gold Coast
In the motorcoach, with the tour guide, cross the border from New South Wales into Queensland,
arriving in Surfer's Paradise. We will spend the night at

in this resort town situated on Australia's legendary Gold Coast. Team leaders will advise the group of their individual plans and invite students.

Day 9 Tuesday May 22, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 3, place and time to be arranged by the team leader. Assignment
completed by 10pm.
Team 4 daily assignment.

Ferry to Fraser Island
Board the motorcoach and travel through rich pineapple country to board a ferry to transfer to Fraser Island. Named after Eliza Fraser, the only survivor of a shipwrecked party that was held captive by
Aborigines in 1836, this is the world's largest sand island! There is a great possibility of diving at nearby
Hervey Bay as time and interest allows. We will spend the night at the Kingfisher Bay Resort & Village,
phone (7) 4120 3333.

Day 10 Wednesday May 23, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 4, place and time to be arranged by the team leader.
Assignment completed by 10pm.

Guided Ranger Walk on Fraser Island
Enjoy the unspoiled beauty of Fraser Island, a naturalist's paradise. The island's varied terrain includes
beaches, dunes, lakes, streams, and marshes. Be on the lookout for native wildlife, including wild horses,
known here as brumbies!

Ferry to Mainland
Reboard the ferry bound for the mainland and continue onto Brisbane for your overnight stay. While in
Brisbane we will stay at Rydges South Bank Hotel, phone (07) 3255 0822.

Day 11 Thursday May 24, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 1, place and time to be arranged by the team leader. Assignment completed by 10pm.
Team 2 daily assignment.

EF Walking Tour of Brisbane
Enjoy a brief sightseeing tour of Brisbane, a town that owes its origins to a penal colony. Brisbane has since become the capital of Queensland and site of the 1988 World Expo.

In the afternoon we will be visiting a local hospital to inquire further into the health care of indigenous Aboriginal people.

Enjoy a free evening in Brisbane to relax and explore the city! Team leaders will advise the group of their individual plans and invite students.

Day 12 Friday May 25, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 2, place and time to be arranged by the team leader. Assignment completed by 10pm.
Team 3 daily assignment.

Visit to Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo
We will be collected from the hotel by the motorcoach and tour guide to spend time at
Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. Here you'll encounter not only indigenous Australian flora and fauna,
but perhaps some of the characters form his popular television series. The remainder of the day is
free to explore Brisbane and environs. Team leaders will advise the group of their individual plans and
invite students.

Day 13 Saturday May 26, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 3, place and time to be arranged by the team leader. Assignment
completed by 10pm.
Team 4 daily assignment.

Free Day in Brisbane
Enjoy a free day today to relax and explore Brisbane. Team leaders will advise the group of their
individual plans and invite students.

Day 14 Sunday May 27, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 4, place and time to be arranged by the team leader. Assignment
completed by 10pm.
Teams 1 and 2 share the daily assignment.

Free Day in Brisbane
Spend your last day in Australia revisiting your favorite sites, doing last minute shopping, or simply
choose to relax! Team leaders will advise the group of their individual plans and invite students.

Day 15 Monday May 28, 2001
Breakfast meeting for Team 1 and 2, place and time to be arranged by team leaders. Assignment
completed by time of flight arriving in Los Angeles.
Team 3 and 4 share daily assignment. Assignment to also be completed by time of flight arriving in
Los Angeles.

The motorcoach will collect us from the hotel at 7am and transfer usto the airport for the flight home.
Depart Brisbane by Air New Zealand flight 132 at 9:25am to arrive Auckland, New Zealand at 2:30pm.
Depart Auckland Air New Zealand flight 2 at 8:45 pm, arrive Los Angeles at 1:45 pm.
(It may be possible to leave the Auckland airport for a few hours tour of the city under the discretion and
direction of the team leaders.) Depart Los Angeles via United flight 2880 at 8:45pm, arriving Salt Lake City at 11:33 pm. Everyone needs to arrange their own return to your homes. Congratulations on a wonderful trip.
