Many Art historians have argued that the Parthenon is as close to architectural perfection as any building. Commissioned by Pericles and built by Icthinus, the necessary funds came from Delian League members. 
 
 
Here the pediment is visible, and of course, without the original sculptures which one filled it. The were taken by the British Lord Elgin and now reside in the British Museum. (Photos by Susan Cottler, 1997)
