noble person demands of himself, the petty person demands of others -- we are responsible for ourselves, not to expect others to take on that responsibility

12.3 cautious and slow of speech -- listen and think things through before talking

2.1 virtuous ruler is like the polar star giving us true direction -- Since people do look up to rulers, rulers then should be virtuous.

2.13 He who keeps the old akindle, and adds new knowledge, is fit to be a teacher. -- escape the kuhn paradigm and respect the old while embrace the new

6.25 He who practices virtue will have neighbors. people respect virtue, and then will respect you

9.28 wise are free from perplexities, virtuous from anxiety, bold from fear. -- knowledge can free students from....

13.6 any position of authority, (everyone) virtuous person as ruler will be followed, but the unvirtuous won't be respected

14.25 learning should be for yourself, not for gaining the praise of others --

1.11 filial piety -- learn from parents, follow their guidance once they are gone.
