One fact of the Six Days' War is the land that Israel's army over-ran, took, conquered, kept. Here, from the Golan Heights, Damascus is visible. The water-sources for the Jordan river are in Israel's hands, the heights from which artillery once shelled the Israeli lowlands are in Israeli hands. The '67 War brought, for example, Damascus, Amman and Baghdad closer to Haifa.... Obviously, the Just War Theory will be one way to try to understand this war. But before we can apply it and work it out, we need the basic outline of -- Who? What? When? Where? How? Why? -- in terms of our current thesis: The Six Days War is the major cause/catalyst for current problems involving Muslims, Jews, Westerners and others connected, e.g., recently, South Korea. |

| Why? | |||
Thesis: The '67 War: Major Cause of Present Middle Eastern Problems?
| Causes of Pertinence | Diplomatic failures and problematic Arab alliances, and the failure to politically recognize the state of Israel | |
| Course of the War worth focusing on | Arabs learned the lesson of 'how' to fight Israel, given the numbers vs technological superiorities | |
| Significant Results | Continuing the '48 presence, '67 strengthened Israel's position as a state. '67 war was a minor manifestation of ongoing problems/hostilities and the Israeli success gives the Arabs a 'legitimate' complaint against Israel
|
|
| Influences, connections etc beyond the above to keep in mind | Linkage to the U.S. in that Israel's success in '67 exacerbated hostilites to the U.S. '67 war as a minor detail in the larger Clash of Civilization since Abraham 'War of Redemption' -- the '67 war brought out powerful religious/psychological/cultural forces in Jews. Israel becomes a focus for Pan-Arab hostilities toward the West '67 war is a minor failure among many problesm of Arab identity and power Long term hostilities trump the Palestinian problem, which IS a serious problem, but would have existed in some other fashion as the PLO prior to '67. '67 war created a stronger tie between Israel & the U.S. in ecx, poli, ideological (Clash of civ) '67 war proved that U.S. ties were strong and underplayed, and the war made the Palestinian problem worse. The war unleashed Mulsim extreme radical violence and violent organizations and re-align some Arab countries as allies to those radical organizations the war made radical Islam lose it s focus, as it re-focused on violence toward Israel the war radicalized some Arab gov'ts and caused them to shift away from conventional to terrorist warfare the 67 war is more a manifestation of hardening of Israel attitudes at that time and subsequently, and less of a cause in itself of problems the ear leaves Israel in a stronger position in that the U.S. is still a strong ally and the USSR has fallen apart leaving the Arabs without that strong ally |
