Our Final (Thursday, Dec 13 from Noon to 1:50) will be a debate. Vox populi, vox Dei. Each 'resolved' will be somewhat different, centering on the three elements of the class and from that center, coming to terms (critique, corroboration or creative synthesis) with Huntington's Clash of Civilizations. For example, how does Just War Theory from the center of Israel, square with Huntington's ideas. (of course and as ever, feel free to be 'pro' or 'con' either the book or the position from the center. Each person will prepare a case and present it in about 2 minutes but less than 3 minutes, with a minute or so for response/rebuttal. Each person hands in at the end an outline of what you have prepared, and notes. The point is to pick a position as outlined below, then read and research to find how that particular position agrees, disagrees etc with various parts of the book, Clash of Civilizations. Then present that point with evidence. Scour our books, then the library's books, then all else. If you are in fundamental disagreement with Huntington, yet would like to present a positive position, rather than only attack the book, feel free to adopt some other intellectual framework, like Fukuyama's Liberalism.
