The Medieval World and its History -- attacked by Modernity, defended by Wisdom. First the Renaissance, then the Enlightenment rejected the study of the Middle Ages as arid -- a superstitious time, thoughtless, primitive, barbaric. More recently, Higher Education has welcomed a resurging interest in the Medieval period -- from the 12th-Century Renaissance to Tolkien's Hobbits -- entire genres of literature and history are being created with contexts in medieval ideals and ways of life. |
