Range Habitat and Distribution

Coyotes inhabit all life zones of the Desert Southwest from the valley floors to the highest mountains. They are very much at home in City Creek.

Coyotes thrived on the conditions created by the westward expansion of settlers. The clearing of forests throburning, logging, farming, the introduction of do,mestic livestock and the removal of the wolf increased the coyote's range. The mosaic of grassy fields and woodlots created by the periodic fires and farming has created habitat for coyote prey species and therefore the coyotes themselves.
