Coyote Predators


The biggest predators of the coyote are humans. Ninty percent of coyote deaths are attributed to people through hunting with guns, poison, traps or killed accidently with vehicles or farm equipment.


Prior to the extinction of the wolf in Yellowstone National Park, coyotes and wolves and coyotes lived under a heirchical system in ewhich wolves dominated the coyotes. All of the wolves of Yellowstone had been wiped out in the 1920's having been killed by park management to protect hoofed animals. In 1995 wolves wre returned to Yellowstone. Since the release of the wolves, wolves have killed twenty five percent of the coyote population in Yelloestone. Wolves are a definite predator of the coyote.
